Presentation Abstract:

Neonatal resuscitation care is a critical aspect of emergency medicine, demanding rapid, effective, and well-coordinated interventions to ensure the best outcomes for newborns in distress. The Neonatal Emergency Readiness Project (NERP) presents an innovative approach to improving ED neonatal resuscitation care through the development of an asynchronous virtual simulation curriculum.

This CE presentation outlines the NERP initiative, which seeks to address the challenges associated with neonatal resuscitation training in the ED setting. Traditional training methods often face limitations such as scheduling conflicts, resource constraints, and the need for frequent in-person sessions. In response, NERP has leveraged modern technology to create an engaging and accessible virtual simulation curriculum.

The asynchronous nature of NERP's curriculum allows ED staff to participate in neonatal resuscitation simulations at their convenience, mitigating scheduling conflicts and enabling repetitive practice. The curriculum encompasses realistic clinical scenarios, providing participants with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills in neonatal resuscitation. Moreover, the integration of feedback mechanisms and performance analytics enables participants to track their progress and identify areas for improvement.

This presentation will delve into the key components of the NERP curriculum, including its development process, content creation, and delivery methods. We will also explore the advantages of asynchronous learning in neonatal resuscitation training, such as increased accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and improved learner engagement. Preliminary results and feedback from NERP implementation will be discussed, highlighting its potential to enhance ED neonatal resuscitation readiness.

Ultimately, the Neonatal Emergency Readiness Project aims to revolutionize neonatal resuscitation training in the ED by providing a flexible, effective, and accessible curriculum that empowers healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care to newborns in critical situations. This presentation invites healthcare practitioners, educators, and stakeholders to consider the transformative impact of asynchronous virtual simulation in improving neonatal resuscitation care within the emergency department.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Outline the NERP initiative, which seeks to address the challenges associated with neonatal resuscitation training in the ED setting.
  2. Explore the advantages of asynchronous learning in neonatal resuscitation training, such as increased accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and outcomes.
  3. Consider the transformative impact of asynchronous virtual simulation in improving neonatal resuscitation care within the emergency department.
