Presentation Abstract:

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the landscape for educators as well as students. Faculty at Auburn University School of Nursing were faced with the challenge to transition from face-to-face learning to virtual, hybrid, or screen-based learning. Our faculty took innovative steps in the classroom, skills labs, and simulation settings, in an attempt to make a seamless transition for student learning. In this presentation, you will learn steps taken to meet the challenge, head-on, in each of the three settings, including innovative teaching strategies-classroom and lab, utilization of Zoom Rooms, as well as interactive breakout rooms designed for an engaging discussion. As with anything, there were perceived benefits and barriers (as noted from students and faculty) in all three settings, these will be discussed with strategies to overcome. And finally, this presentation will highlight future implications for our program and beyond.

Additional Presenter: Amy Curtis, PhD, RN, CHSE - Assistant Clinical Professor Auburn University School of Nursing

Learning Objectives:

  2. Explore ways to overcome perceived barriers students and faculty face in the virtual classroom, lab and simulation settings.
