Presentation Abstract:

The ONE-Sim is an interprofessional SBE program for health professionals and students involved in childbirth, where participants manage obstetric and neonatal emergency scenarios as a team. We have described the ONE-Sim hands-on workshops conducted using blended simulation (Kumar et al., 2019; Zhong et al., 2021). The focus of the program is to provide hands-on skills training to the participants in dealing with perinatal emergencies and management of these emergencies using a team-based learning approach. This is complemented by in-depth discussions (debrief) about teamwork and behavioral aspects of crisis resource management.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to disruption of most interprofessional simulation workshops in our center, including the ONE-Sim workshops for medical, nursing, midwifery students, and health professional staff in Australia and overseas. We devised online versions of the workshop for students and staff. This has enabled us to continue this vital simulation-based education during the pandemic, when strict lockdowns, physical distance requirements, and travel restrictions precluded the usual conduct of these workshops. In this webinar, we describe the ONE-Sim workshops - how they were established, and how they have evolved over the time.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn the ONE-Sim interprofessional healthcare simulation training program.
  2. Show how to incorporate lessons learned from the ONE-Sim program to participant's own practice and education.
  3. Improve understanding of tools available to achieve clinical outcome goals.
