An Interprofessional, Experiential, Performance-based Model for Healthcare Professions

Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Simulation and Assistant Professor, Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Dr. Boyers’ professional interest is to ensure that healthcare professionals (at all levels of training) are highly prepared to provide the safest possible patient care. This interest includes paying close attention to the well-being of healthcare professionals – and how they learn to work efficiently and effectively in healthcare teams. A lifelong medical educator with significant experience in designing and operating medical simulation centers, Dr. Boyers is well-published and speaks nationally and internationally about transforming the education of healthcare professionals. She enjoys collaborating with other high reliability organizations, including the military, to help identify best training practices related to improving quality, safety and lowering costs. Dr. Boyers previously served for many years as one of the public members for the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and is an active member of the National Training Simulation Association (NTSA): Patient Safety Workgroup.

Mr. Stobbe’s responsibilities include the administrative operational and fiscal management for UNMC clinical simulation centers including the oversight of the design

construction and equipping of the Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning

iEXCEL’s physical entity. Mr. Stobbe also serves as a critical liaison between iEXCEL and Nebraska Medicine to identify and improve educational and clinical outcomes through simulation training. He previously served as the administrative director/business manager at The University of Toledo Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center (UT-IISC) and as a clinical instructor in the Colleges of Surgery and Nursing. Additional positions held by Mr. Stobbe include: administrative director Center for Medical Education and Innovation; trauma program manager. Riverside Methodist Hospital; trauma case manager Riverside Methodist Hospital; and he served 10 years as a staff nurse in neurology critical care step-down trauma and vascular thoracic surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Mr. Stobbe is a registered nurse with a master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix. With his significant clinical background and simulation center administration experience, Mr. Stobbe provides expert business direction and unique simulation knowledge to contribute to the transformation of education for health professionals. He is also skilled in developing community military and faculty support for the advancement of simulation activities in the clinical setting. Mr. Stobbe’s collaborates with the United States Air Force in research studies and conducting Live Virtual Constructive Exercises for SWAT Teams First Responders and USAF Para Jumpers.

Dr. Asit Misra has just joined the University of Miami’s Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine (Department of Surgery) and will serve as its Assistant Director of the Prehospital and Emergency Training Division. Prior to joining the Gordon Center. Dr. Misra was an Instructor of Emergency Medicine and a Research Scientist at the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Dr. Misra graduated from the Tver State Medical University in 2003. He holds a MAster’s Degree in Medical Education and Emergency Medicine. He has completed an American College of Surgeons Accredited Surgical Simulation Fellowship. Dr. Misra serves as an editorial board member associate editor and peer reviewer for several academic journals. He is also an Advisory Board member of the Core Curriculum & Education Committee for the International Federation of Emergency Medicine. His areas of interest are healthcare simulation disaster medicine resuscitation faculty development and educational research. His research focus on demonstrating the outcomes and the impact of experiential learning assessment and program evaluation in simulation-based medical education.

Lance W. Baily, BA, EMT-B is the Founder / CEO of HealthySimulation.com, the world’s leading healthcare simulation resource website which supports thousands healthcare professionals a month. As an experienced entrepreneur, digital media producer and administrative professional, Lance has the background and the experience necessary to help guide the clinical simulation industry to mass adoption.

Lance is also the Founder of SimGHOSTS.org, the leading 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting healthcare professionals operating clinical simulation technologies which has organized over twenty hands-on training conferences around the globe since 2011. His co-edited  book “Comprehensive Healthcare Simulation: Operations, Technology, and Innovative Practice” provides 400 pages of in-depth articles supporting the technical integration of medical simulation in any sized program.

Formerly he served as Director of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas, Simulation Technician for the LA Community College District, and volunteer Fire-Fighter, after receiving his BA in Film and Digital Media Production and working on Hollywood production sets. He currently lives with his wife and two young daughters in Las Vegas.

Melissa Jo Tully, BSN, MHPE, RN-BC, is a highly accomplished healthcare professional with a passion for education and patient safety. With a Master’s degree in Health Professional Education from the College of Medicine at Vanderbilt University, Melissa has honed her expertise in developing innovative programs to enhance healthcare performance and quality. As an experienced nurse, Melissa followed her passion for lifelong learning by exploring nursing specialties through her early nursing career as a float nurse, including working in critical care, emergency room, labor and delivery, and hospice. Melissa launched her career in consulting, by starting Medical Simulation Consulting. Her firm’s primary focus lies in designing, developing, and evaluating simulation programs that integrate augmented and virtual reality technology, as well as audiovisual technologies.

Teresa Gore, PhD, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CHSE-A, FSSH, FAAN - Dr. Gore has experience in educating future nurses in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Gore has a PhD in Adult Education, a DNP as a family nurse practitioner, and a certificate in Simulation Education. Dr. Gore is an innovative, compassionate educator and an expert in the field of healthcare simulation. In 2007l Teresa started her journey in healthcare simulation. She is involved in INACSL and SSH. She is a Past-President of INACSL and is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator Advanced (CHSE-A). In 2018, she was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). In 2021, she was inducted as a Fellow in the Society of Simulation in Healthcare Academy (FSSH) and selected as a Visionary Leader University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Alumni. During her career, Dr. Gore has led in the development and integration of simulation into all undergraduate clinical courses and started an OSCE program for APRN students. Her research interests and scholarly work focus on simulation, online course development and faculty development. She has numerous invited presentations nationally and internationally on simulation topics.
