Behind the Scenes with Data: The Unsung Hero of Healthcare Simulation

Dayna Downing holds the position of Director of Program Operations at Immersive Design Systems (IDS), located within Boston Children's Hospital. In her role, she is responsible for managing the daily operations of IDS and providing leadership for the Immersive Technologies Teams. Her teams are tasked with designing and implementing advanced immersive simulations and medical technologies. They utilize a blend of simulation techniques, organic modeling, applied engineering, and artistic approaches to develop tailored physical and virtual training tools. Downing's contributions to the field extend beyond her IDS duties. She has played a significant role in shaping the ethical and educational frameworks within healthcare simulation. Notably, she was an associate editor for the Healthcare Simulation Dictionary, 2nd Edition, which standardizes terminology and promotes clear communication among professionals in the field. Additionally, she was part of the global working group that developed the Healthcare Simulationist Code of Ethics, underscoring her commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism in healthcare simulation. For over a decade, she has been involved in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), where she has held numerous leadership positions. She has chaired Government Relations, External Strategic Relations, and in 2019 was elected to the Board of Directors. She is a member of various committees, workgroups, sections, and affinity groups. She is currently a member of the Development Committee. Dayna Downing's work at Immersive Design Systems and her contributions to the broader healthcare simulation community highlight her dedication to advancing the field through innovative technologies, ethical practices, and collaborative efforts.

Formerly he served as Director of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas, Simulation Technician for the LA Community College District, and volunteer Fire-Fighter, after receiving his BA in Film and Digital Media Production and working on Hollywood production sets. He currently lives with his wife and two young daughters in Las Vegas.

Teresa Gore, PhD, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CHSE-A, FSSH, FAAN - Dr. Gore has experience in educating future nurses in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Gore has a PhD in Adult Education, a DNP as a family nurse practitioner, and a certificate in Simulation Education. Dr. Gore is an innovative, compassionate educator and an expert in the field of healthcare simulation. In 2007l Teresa started her journey in healthcare simulation. She is involved in INACSL and SSH. She is a Past-President of INACSL and is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator Advanced (CHSE-A). In 2018, she was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). In 2021, she was inducted as a Fellow in the Society of Simulation in Healthcare Academy (FSSH) and selected as a Visionary Leader University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Alumni. During her career, Dr. Gore has led in the development and integration of simulation into all undergraduate clinical courses and started an OSCE program for APRN students. Her research interests and scholarly work focus on simulation, online course development and faculty development. She has numerous invited presentations nationally and internationally on simulation topics.
