Advancing Healthcare Simulation-Based Learning in Developing Countries

Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz is a highly accomplished and dedicated healthcare professional with an impressive range of qualifications and expertise. With a wealth of experience and a passion for simulation-based education, Dr. Fayyaz has made significant contributions to the field of pediatric emergency medicine and healthcare education. Dr. Fayyaz holds a diverse set of qualifications, including an MD, DCH (Diploma in Child Health), MCPS (Member of College of Physicians and Surgeons), FCPS (Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons), MHPE (Master's in Health Profession Education), and a Ph.D. in Simulation from MGH IHP, Harvard. Their educational journey reflects a deep commitment to acquiring knowledge and skills in order to make a positive impact on healthcare education. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Dr. Fayyaz plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals via Simulation. She also serve as a PEM (Pediatric Emergency Medicine) Staff Physician at The Hospital for Sick Children, where her expertise and dedication contribute to providing exemplary patient care. In addition to their contributions at The Hospital for Sick Children, Dr. Fayyaz serves as Chair for the IPSS-INSPIRE PED SIM Fellowship, where they contribute to the development of simulation expertise among pediatric healthcare professionals. Their commitment to spreading knowledge and expertise extends internationally.

Adeel Khatri graduated from Karachi University and then completed his fellowship in Internal Medicine from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). He joined the department of Emergency Medicine at Indus Hospital, and completed Certified Simulation Educators Program from Aga Khan University. During the Covid pandemic, Adeel also completed Essentials in Clinical Simulations Across the Health Professionals program offered by George Washington University, and Master Debriefers’ course from The Debriefers’ Academy, Canada. He is currently the Residency program director and simulation lead for emergency medicine at Indus hospital as well as an examiner at CPSP. Adeel is one of the lead local faculty for Certification Program I Emergency Medicine – CPEM (In collaboration with University of Pennsylvania) and Foundation program in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (in collaboration with SickKids, Canada), both of which are geared towards developing emergency medicine as a specialty in Pakistan and capacity building of departments and doctors all across Pakistan and other LMICs, where physicians are working in emergency departments without any formal training.

As an experienced entrepreneur, digital media producer and administrative professional, Lance has the background and the experience necessary to help guide the healthcare simulation industry to greater levels of adoption.

Lance is also the Founder of SimGHOSTS.org, the leading 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting healthcare professionals operating clinical simulation technologies which has organized over twenty hands-on training conferences around the globe since 2011. His new co-edited Book: “Comprehensive Healthcare Simulation: Operations, Technology, and Innovative Practice” provides 400 pages of in-depth articles supporting the technical integration of healthcare simulation in any sized program.

Formerly he served as Director of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas, Simulation Technician for the LA Community College District, and volunteer Fire-Fighter, after receiving his BA in Film and Digital Media Production and working on Hollywood production sets. He currently lives with his wife in Las Vegas with their two young daughters and two crazy dachshunds.
